Russia recognizes the borders of the four annexed territories in force on the day of accession

The Russian Duma or Parliament has recognized in a new document that the borders of the Ukrainian regions of Zaporiyia, Jerson, Lugansk and Donetsk in force and recognized are the existing the very day of annexation, last Friday, September 30th.

"The boundaries of the territory of the Donetsk People's Republic are determined by the borders of the territory (...) that existed on the day of its formation and the day on which (...) it was admitted to the Russian Federation," reads the document on the agreement of the admission of the territory, as the Russian agency TASS has learned.

This document also indicates that the borders of the self-proclaimed People's Republic of Lugansk, Zaporizhia and Kherson will be treated in the same way. In addition, it warns that the limits of these territories with other foreign states "will be the state border of the Russian Federation."

In this sense, Russia details that the delimitation of the borders established in these regions are included in the constitutions of each one of them.

This Sunday, the Russian Constitutional Court approved a package of documents presented by Russian President Vladimir Putin on the entry of these three territories into Russia.

Referendums on joining Russia were held in these regions between 23 and 27 September. In the consultations, which have not been legally recognized at the international level, they showed a supposed large majority of the population in favor of accession.
