Russia accuses Ukrainian forces of using chemical weapons in Zaporizhia region

MADRID, 20 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Russian Ministry of Defense has accused the Ukrainian Armed Forces of using chemical weapons during an alleged attack carried out in late July in the Zaporizhia region, the focus of intense fighting in recent weeks.

The events denounced by Moscow would have taken place in the Vasilyevka area. After the attack, doctors found traces of a neurotoxin in several soldiers who had been evacuated with serious injuries, always according to the Russian version, collected by the Interfax news agency.

The Russian government, which has announced that it will transfer the evidence to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), has stated that Volodimir Zelensky's "regime" is resorting to "chemical terrorism" in the face of his "military defeats" on the land.

On the other hand, the spokesman for the Russian Army, Igor Konashenkov, has announced an investigation into an alleged chemical poisoning of a military command in the Kherson region, in eastern Ukraine, according to the TASS agency.

The use of chemical weapons has been a recurring fear since Russia began its invasion of Ukraine in February, with no official evidence that Ukrainian troops have resorted to them in the context of this conflict.
