Rufián admits having used the PGE as "lever" to force Sánchez to eliminate sedition

MADRID, 3 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The ERC spokesman in Congress, Gabriel Rufián, acknowledged this Saturday that his party used the vote for the 2023 General State Budget (PGE) project as a "lever of force" to force the coalition government to eliminate crime of sedition for which the leaders of the Catalan independence 'procés' were convicted.

"Unfortunately, many times we have to use force levers for the PSOE to move, even in commitments that, in fact, are theirs," Rufián explained in statements to RNE, collected by Europa Press, before noting that the legislature is reaching its term and this commitment continued unfulfilled.

This bill of the PSOE and Unidas Podemos, which has already passed two votes in plenary session of Congress, one of them at one in the morning, will have its next scale on December 9 with the presentation of the amendments to the articles, And there it will be seen if any parliamentary group is committed to taking advantage to also modify the crime of embezzlement, as ERC also requests.

The ERC spokesman, who initially separated the budgets from the end of sedition, has insisted that his formation does not seek to use these "external levers" and has blamed the PSOE for this extreme. "If this is so, it is because they are the ways, forms and times of the PSOE," he said, expressing his desire to be able to sit down with the Socialists or the Government itself, in coalition with United We Can. "But then they make us dizzy, they even lie to us," he lamented.

Along these lines, he considers it "important" that the elimination of sedition be completed before the end of the year because the issues that his party considers "good" have to be done "quickly." "There is no reason to lengthen things artificially," he added, before assuring that, although they "trust" the PSOE, it cannot be "obviated" that there are "progressive" issues that "cost a lot."

Referring to the amendment referring to embezzlement, Rufián has insisted on being "discreet" with the negotiation, while acknowledging that it is "extremely difficult" to achieve a "balance" so that it does not end up benefiting those convicted of corruption. "You have to be surgical", he has emphasized himself.

In parallel, he has advocated that the Criminal Code not be used "as a toy" in the hands of a judge "with certain ideological interests."
