Robles, in favor of declassifying the documents on the GAL and 23F

MADRID, 2 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, has been in favor this Tuesday that citizens can access, with the new Secrets Law, documents that until now were confidential, such as those related to the GAL or those that affect the coup attempt of the 23-F.

During a visit to the Air Evacuation Medical Unit (UMAER), at the Torrejón Air Base, Robles maintained that the new Classified Information Law promoted by the Executive is "absolutely necessary" because the current one dates from 1968 and was a claim of NATO and the European Union.

In her opinion, it is good that society can learn about events from her past, such as the events related to the GAL, an issue in which she has recalled that she herself had the opportunity to work as Secretary of State for the Ministry of the Interior in the 1990s. .

"Aid to knowledge, transparency," he insists, advancing that the law may be reformed during the parliamentary process to unite the greatest possible consensus. "All the amendments that are reasonable will be accepted," he said about the criticism that other parties have already advanced.

The minister has thus insisted on adding support to this reform because "it responds to the essential principles of any democracy" and places Spain in "the parameters of other European countries". However, she did not want to go into detail about the possibility of lowering the number of years required for the declassification of documents.
