Robles defends that the Defense policy is branded by Sánchez and the expenditure of 2% of GDP will be fulfilled by 2029

JACA (HUESCA), Sep. 1 (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Defense Minister, Margarita Robles, wanted to make it clear today that Defense policy is set by the president and stressed that Spain's commitment to increase defense spending to 2 percent by 2029 will be fulfilled. This was stated today during his visit to the Army units at the San Bernardo Barracks, in Jaca, and the Citadel (Huesca).

There and when asked about the controversy over the increase in defense spending, not defended by Podemos and denied by its second vice president, she made it clear that the Government's position on defense matters is set by the president, who today said, "It has been very clear."

In this regard, he recalled that there is a commitment by Spain to rise to 2 percent by 2029 and he wanted to make it clear that this commitment is "the same as the rest of the NATO countries" and the European Union.

The minister wanted to make it clear that Spain is a "serious, reliable and committed ally" that has "leadership" in Europe, as, she said, is being seen in energy matters. For this reason, she has added, "she is aware that in difficult times it is necessary to invest in defense, in peace and in jobs".

Robles asked not to forget that Europe is "living through a war", that the situation "is tough" and that the war "is going to last a long time". For this reason, he has stressed that what the Ministry of Defense is going to do is "invest in peace and jobs and protect the families that work in the defense industry."

He has not wanted to reveal how much the increase will be in the next budget for 2023 because it is still being prepared. But he has indicated that "between now and 2029 that commitment will be fulfilled" of increasing spending to 2 percent.

The minister took advantage of the occasion to point out that Spain leaves "the flag high" in all the missions it carries out within the EU and stated that her visit to Jaca was to convey to all the units her recognition and admiration for all the effort that they perform. With her work, she has assured, they are demonstrating the commitment to Spain, the will to serve and "in times as difficult as those the world is experiencing" they represent Spain's commitment to peace.
