Repsol acquires 27% of the Spanish waste recycling and recovery company Acteco

MADRID, 13 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Repsol has acquired the capital of Acteco, a company specializing in the collection, management, recycling and recovery of waste in Spain, with the acquisition of a 27% stake, with which the group becomes a strategic shareholder of the company from Alicante and accelerates its strategic commitment to the circular economy, reported the multienergy.

With this operation, the group chaired by Antonio Brufau pointed out that it ensures its access to quality plastic waste to continue developing circular economy tools that put new sustainable materials on the market under its Repsol Reciclex range, thus satisfying a growing demand and the commitments of sustainability acquired with its customers.

Repsol's entry into the capital of Acteco will allow this company to face its growth plan in the management and recycling of plastic waste and double its plastic recycling capacity in five years.

In addition, the energy company led by Josu Jon Imaz highlighted that this operation is in line with its strategic commitment to the circular economy, as the axis of transformation of its industrial complexes to manufacture products with "low, null or even negative carbon footprint" and reach the zero emissions in 2050.

Both companies have been collaborating since 2018 to promote new circular economy models through the recovery of polymers after the end of their useful life and their reincorporation into new high value-added products in sectors such as the automotive, health, construction and infrastructure or packaging.

In this sense, in 2020, Repsol and Acteco launched a joint project to increase the capacity of the recycled material production plant that Acteco owns in Ibi (Alicante).

The executive director of Refining and Chemistry at Repsol, Jaime Martín Juez, highlighted that this new step in the collaboration between the two companies "represents a fundamental boost to achieve Repsol's objective of recycling the equivalent of 20% of its polyolefin production for the year 2030".

For their part, the founding partners of Acteco, Juan Manuel Erum and Jorge Ramis, welcomed Repsol as a partner and as a member of the company's board of directors and stressed that the multi-energy company will help "accelerate its activity with new materials and new markets".

Repsol's investment in the capital of Acteco reinforces our position as a leader in the plastic recycling sector and in the construction of a circular economy.
