Rafa Nadal withdraws from the Montreal Masters 1000

MADRID, 5 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Spanish tennis player Rafa Nadal announced this Friday his resignation from participating in the Masters 1000 in Montreal (Canada) next week because he still has "a little discomfort" in the abdominal injury that forced him to withdraw from Wimbledon before the semifinals.

"Since the vacation days and my subsequent return to training, everything has gone well these weeks in terms of training and preparation. Four days ago I also started training the service and yesterday, after training, I had a little discomfort that was still there today," Nadal confessed on his social networks.

This has motivated them to decide "not to travel" to Montreal and "continue training without forcing". "I sincerely thank the director of the tournament and his entire team for the understanding and support that they have always shown me and that today has not been an exception," he said.

"I hope to play again in Montreal, a tournament that I love and that I have won five times in front of an audience that has always welcomed me with great affection. I have no choice but to be prudent at this point and think about my health", admitted the winner of 22 'Grand Slams'.

The Balearic tennis player was injured in the abdominal area during his Wimbledon quarterfinal match against American Taylor Fritz and later had to withdraw from the tournament before playing the semifinals against Australian Nick Kyrgios due to a 7-millimeter break.
