Pogacar confident of winning: "I'm going to attack every climb of the Pyrenees"

The Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates) does not give up winning his third consecutive Tour de France despite being more than 2 minutes behind and promised to attack the current leader of the general classification, Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma), in "every climb" of the next stages in the Pyrenees.

On the last rest day of the Tour, the UAE leader intends to close that gap before reaching the time trial of the penultimate stage on Saturday. "I have to take every opportunity and attack every climb to gain some time every day. I hope I won't have any regrets at the end," he said.

"I have to close the gap before the time trial. Jonas is really good. I will not bet on the time trial and I hope to win 30 seconds or two minutes there," predicted the two-time French round champion about last year's second-placed Vingegaard, who wore the yellow last week in the Alps.

Saturday's time trial is over 40.7km and Pogacar was just eight seconds quicker than Vingegaard in the first 13.1km run at the start of the Tour in Vingegaard's native Denmark.

However, Pogacar stated that falling behind Vingegaard on the Champs-Élysées would not be a bad result either. "It's not the end of the world if I don't come to Paris in yellow. Second place is good too," he said.
