Podemos organizes an event on Sunday in Madrid to support Montero after the controversy over the "yes is yes" law

The minister will also star in another pre-campaign rally in Murcia in full tension with the PSOE on the depth of the changes

MADRID, 2 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Podemos has organized an event this Sunday in Madrid to claim that consent remains the central axis in the Law of 'only yes is yes' and also cover the Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, in the framework of the negotiation with the PSOE to remodel the regulations and that has generated tensions between the partners.

Under the slogan 'Did you consent or not? Only yes is yes', the event will also have the participation of the leader of the formation and Minister of Social Rights, Ione Belarra, and the Government delegate against Gender Violence, Victoria Rosell.

Its development will take place in the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, where another act of a similar format was also displayed last November to support the head of Equality after the personal attack that Vox deputy Clara Toscano made against her in Congress .

Then, former socialist president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and former PSOE deputy in Madrid Carla Antonelli offered their support to Montero and his feminist policies, while officials from the confederal space and former vice president Pablo Iglesias were present in the audience.

The formation has intensified the presence of Montero, 'number two' of Podemos, during this weekend and will also be present in Murcia in a pre-campaign act together with party candidates for the May elections in this region and the regional coordinator, Javier Sanchez Serna.

Yesterday, the Minister of Equality assured during an interview on Telecinco that she is working to reach an agreement between the government partners, PSOE and Unidas Podemos, in the reform of the Law of 'only yes is yes', although she acknowledged that the current situation it is "strong discrepancy" between the two "regarding consent."

The purples argue that they have discreetly presented up to five proposals to modify (including the opening to raise the minimum sentences) of the norm in their criminal sphere that the Socialists have rejected.

In addition, they criticize that the PSOE's approach endangers that consent remains at the heart of the law and they criticize that their partner intends to return to the previous model in relation to the Penal Code, something that the PP precisely wants.

The general secretary of Podemos went so far as to say on Wednesday that her coalition partners' "legs are shaking" as they are subjected to "a lot of pressure" from the right and, therefore, they have been forced to undertake the change of the normative. And she also stressed that the problem lies in the incorrect application of the law by judges with a "macho and patriarchal look."

Today Belarra has insisted that the PSOE "resist" and "endure" said pressure because, as he explained, the norm is "a good law that protects women."

Meanwhile, from the PSOE they have stressed during these days that the law is going to be changed to correct the technical and legal aspects, in order to avoid downward revisions of sentences. In this way, they will present a bill that they want to agree with their partner, but if this is not possible they will also present it.

In turn, the Socialists reject that the remodeling of the text involves altering the philosophy of the law and ensure that consent will not be affected by the proposal designed by the Ministry of Justice.
