The formation will take off an act in Aragon to commemorate the appointment starring Belarra and display militant muscle

MADRID, 17 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Podemos celebrates its ninth anniversary this Tuesday, dedicated to claiming itself as the main formation to the left of the PSOE and with the prospect of an electoral cycle marked by the May elections, key to its territorial presence, and repeated calls to the second vice president, Yolanda Díaz , to define a

To commemorate the irruption of the party on January 17, 2014, with the public presentation of Podemos at the Teatro del Barrio in Madrid, the formation has chosen Aragon to deploy a central rally on the 21st and show, as explained by the party, the importance given to the autonomous elections, when choosing a community where they aspire to revalidate the progressive government.

The central anniversary act will be led by the general secretary, Ione Belarra, and in the absence of defining the poster of interveners, the attendance of the former leader and co-founder of the party Pablo Iglesias is not expected.

Facing this appointment, the purple formation wants to show militant muscle and plans to deploy a unitary action of all its circles (the grassroots structure of Podemos) to disseminate in networks and on the street, with open meetings with citizens, their proposals and extol the achievements of his political career.

In addition, they will also seek to project their candidates for a pre-campaign that has already started this weekend and pay homage to their supporters. On the other hand, the party's discourse on the eve of this event, through different leaders, has focused on extolling the achievements of Podemos, such as putting an end to bipartisanship and achieving the coalition government with the PSOE, boasting in turn of forcing the most ambitious measures of the Executive.

A line that the party has followed today in networks highlighting its push for the deployment of outstanding measures, the social shield and the recent anti-crisis decree.

After the withdrawal of Iglesias from politics, after the Madrid elections of 2021, the formation began a new stage supported by a more choral, decentralized and feminized direction, in addition to betting on a model of two-headedness with Belarra as organic leader while Díaz became She stood as the highest representative in the Executive, also directly appointed by Iglesias as a candidate for the generals, with a view to expanding the space of United We Can.

However, and with the passage of time, the relationship between both parties has cooled, going through episodes of estrangement and with the paralysis of the confederal table of the UP parties, to the detriment of other dialogue forums.

With the passage of time and since Díaz decided to launch the Sumar platform, to reconfigure the space to the left of the PSOE and that Podemos conceives as "his party", tensions have also arisen and, in recent times, the purple formation urges him to define his future and negotiate a coalition with Sumar, since they are not going to integrate into his platform.

Thus, the purples have expressed their commitment to unity with generosity on their part and converge with other parties outside the confederal space, although making it clear that this requires a "fair" agreement that takes into account their weight as the main force on the left. and his trajectory to change the political game.

From the formation they state that the only scenario they contemplate is an alliance with Díaz and that it would be a mistake if there were no agreement, since the fragmentation on the left would make it very difficult to revalidate the progressive government.

On the other hand, the regional and municipal elections are marked as a priority for Podemos, convinced that they will be decisive in revalidating and winning progressive governments. Podemos has been preparing this appointment for some time, when defining its internal candidates in November and dumped in the middle of the pre-campaign, in the absence of defining its relationship of coalitions, especially with the IU for this appointment, which is already sealed in Catalonia, Navarra and Madrid and in the absence of define in other autonomies.

In this sense, various sources have already indicated that January will be a decisive moment to define the map of alliances on the left for 28M.

The leadership of Podemos has emphasized the priority of these elections and they want to get the best possible result. The party has been accumulating since 2019 a dynamic of regression in regional elections (except for Catalonia and the paradoxical case of Madrid, where they raised their representation but meant the abandonment of Iglesias's policy).

In fact, the general secretary, Ione Belarra, has asked Díaz to campaign for United We Can for this meeting despite the fact that the vice president's project is national and will not be there for the May meeting.

And it is that in sectors of Podemos they emphasize that this appointment also has an impact on their project and a good result on the left beyond the PSOE would help to enhance the options for the generals.
