Podemos and IU reach an agreement for the first time in Murcia for a joint candidacy for the May elections

The brand will be the sum of the acronyms of the formations instead of the formula United We Can

MADRID, 18 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Podemos and Izquierda Unida in Murcia have reached an agreement in principle to run together in the regional elections in the main municipalities of the region, which will be held at the end of May.

In this way, they seal a confluence that is open to more parties and whose brand will be generically based on the name of the different formations, that is, that in the regional case it will be Podemos-IU instead of Unidas Podemos.

In this way, Podemos already has a confluence agreement with Alianza Verde (which is de facto already part of the coalition). Meanwhile, it is IU that agrees to later integrate Más Región (Íñigo Errejón's brand in the community) and Equo into its quota. In the event of forging this expanded alliance, the coalition would add the name of these formations.

In turn, Podemos will hold first place on the joint list in nine locations, such as Murcia, Cartagena, Molina del Segura, Alcantarilla, or San Pedro del Pinatar, among others. For its part, IU will lead the confluence candidacy in 13 locations such as Totana (which is an exception since the brand will be Win), Jumilla, Lorca and Calasparra, among others.

According to sources from the purple party, the head of the list for the autonomous will be the current deputy of Podemos María Marín, who has carried out an "enormous job" of opposition to the regional government, as well as in environmental matters and particularly in policies to protect the Minor Sea.

In this way, Podemos is satisfied with the unity agreement reached in Murcia and assures that the municipal and regional elections, for which they have been preparing for months, are "a priority and that they will continue working to achieve unity in other territories".

The two formations had been trying for the first time to forge their confluence for the autonomous and municipal ones for some time. In their last offer, the purples maintained the first two positions in the candidacy for the regional Assembly and the third for IU.

However, and in the event that only two seats were obtained, the second position would be rotating, that is, that Podemos would renounce that act in the middle of the legislature so that the IU would hold it. Finally, the premise of sharing that second seat is incorporated into the agreement.

Thus, the region joins the coalition agreements reached in other regions such as Catalonia (together with the commons), Navarra and the Community of Madrid.

Regarding the brand, it will be based on the acronyms of the parties and will be Podemos-IU for the regional sphere, while at the municipal level it will also be Podemos-IU or IU-Podemos depending on who had the most votes in the previous elections.

A political coordination table between Podemos and IU was also agreed, both at the regional and municipal levels, and the equal visibility of the logos of both formations on the electoral ballot.

Regarding the financial contribution to the campaign, Podemos will contribute 80% of the resources while IU assumes the remaining 20%, while in the subsequent distribution of income for institutional representation the purple formation will have 66% while IU will obtain 33 %.
