Planas regrets the 'no' of the Feijóo PP to the Food Chain Law and aid to the agricultural sector

He wonders what the popular leader will explain to ranchers on visits to farms after having put said aid at risk

MADRID, 1 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, has criticized that the Popular Party, at this time of "concern" for the primary sector, voted against the Food Chain Law, as well as aid for the sectors agricultural sectors most affected, such as dairy, meat and citrus.

"I do not understand that logic of denial of the PP in the field of agriculture and livestock. The Government of Spain is trying to protect the immense middle class of the country. What should be a reason not for controversy, but for unanimity, where we should have in the parliamentary arc with the support of all the political forces for the approval of these measures, unfortunately this has not been the case", Planas questioned in statements to Europa Press.

The head of Agriculture has recalled that in the approval of the Law of the Food Chain, which has been a "historical claim of the agrarian organizations", "they could not" have the support of the PP in the Congress of Deputies.

"Fortunately, this Law was approved thanks to the parliamentary majority of the Government and that has already allowed evident achievements so that the negotiation of prices in a context as difficult as the current one, where burdens must be distributed between the production sector, the industry and the distribution, is distributed in a more balanced way", he assured.

It has also seemed "particularly shocking" that in the current context, the aid of 169 million euros for dairy or 193 million euros for the livestock and citrus sector had the negative vote of the PP.

"What is Mr. Feijóo going to explain to him on those visits he makes to a cattle farm or to a Galician farmer about why he cannot receive these aids? Fortunately, this has not been the case, he has received them because the Government has put them on the table, but I do not understand very well that logic of denial also in the field of agriculture and livestock of what are a series of aid measures for the primary sector", he has been honest.

In this way, the head of Agriculture has taken the opportunity to remind that in addition to the aid offered by the Government, the autonomous communities can currently complement them in the case of wanting to help the sectors most affected by the current crisis.

"We are in a moment of concern, there are many unknowns on the horizon, not only in Spain, and it is the Government's obligation to give operators certainty, security and peace of mind so that they can do something as key to Spanish society as providing food and drinks every day to citizens", he stressed.
