Perth Mint shows double dragon, koi in ultra high relief

The Double Dragons and Koi Fish Yin Yang coins have an antiqued finish. They are also in very high relief. The coin is rich in Chinese cultural references. It features two golden koi in the form of a yin and yang symbol or taijitu symbol. They are surrounded by two Chinese dragons that have serpentine shapes.

About designs

To enhance the drama of Double Dragon design, there are no legends on the reverse side of the piedfort (double thick).

Two detailed imperial dragons floating among the clouds are the highlights of this coin. These mythical creatures surround a pair koi fish in an enamel-like, golden orange color.

The interconnection of their colored whiskers symbolizes the transformation of koifish into dragons. The background features floating clouds that are associated with deities and lotus flowers which represent purity.

The reverse features Queen Elizabeth II in crowned profile to the right.

Ian Rank-Broadley sculpted this portrait wearing a tiara with pearl earrings.

The legend QUEEN ELIZABETH 2 also includes the date and the denomination. 2 OZ 9999 SIVER is a legend that describes purity and weight.

Chinese Inspiration

Ancient Chinese mythology says that a group of gold koi fish traveled up a swift-flowing river full of rocks to reach the Dragon Gate, a mountain waterfall. The waterfall towered above the river and defeated nearly every attempt to climb its height. One koi managed to climb the mountain despite its seemingly impossible height. The gods made it the dragon because of its perseverance and determination.

Traditional Chinese culture considers the dragon a divinity and a potent symbol of strength, wealth, and power.

Koi have been associated with harmony and happiness, and they are often used to symbolize good fortune for happy marriages. The yin yang symbol in feng shui represents balance between positive and negative energies within "chi", which is, according to Chinese tradition, the vital life-force for all living things on Earth.
