Pakistan rejects the blame of the Taliban on the use of its airspace for operations in Afghanistan

MADRID, 29 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry on Monday rejected the "deplorable" accusations without evidence that the Taliban launched over the weekend about the alleged use by the United States of Pakistani airspace in its anti-terrorist operations in Afghanistan.

On Sunday, the Taliban's acting defense minister, Mullah Mohammad Yaqub, said US military drones were entering Afghanistan through Pakistani airspace.

"Pakistan, with deep concern, has taken note of the allegations of the interim defense minister of Afghanistan about the use of Pakistan's airspace during the anti-terrorist operation carried out with US drones," begins a statement in which the Taliban are accused of accusing no proof.

"In the absence of evidence, as the Afghan minister himself acknowledged, such speculation is highly regrettable and defies the norm of responsible diplomatic behavior. Pakistan reaffirms its belief in the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states and condemns terrorism in all its forms. forms and manifestations," he says.

"We urge the Afghan provisional authorities to guarantee compliance with the international commitments acquired by Afghanistan not to allow the use of its territory for terrorism against any country," the statement closes.

The United States announced in July the death of the leader of the terrorist organization Al Qaeda, Ayman al Zawahiri, in a drone attack carried out in the Afghan capital, Kabul. Pakistan has denied any prior knowledge of the attack, as well as any involvement in it.

This crossing of statements takes place at a time of certain border tension between Pakistan and Afghanistan due to the actions of the Pakistani Taliban, Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a group that differs from the Afghan Taliban in organizational matters but follows the same rigorous interpretation of Sunni Islam.
