One of the Nord Stream leaks emits less gas, according to the Swedish Coast Guard

STOCKHOLM, 30 Sep. (DPA/EP) -

The Swedish Coast Guard has detected a reduction in the flow of gas emanating from one of the four leaks of the Nord Stream gas pipeline, the target this week of an alleged practically simultaneous sabotage in different areas both in its first and second slopes.

The reduction corresponds to the smallest leak of the two found in Sweden's exclusive economic zone, according to the coast guard, which released a report on Friday made from observations from the air over the Baltic Sea. The other two leaks are also in international waters, but in the part corresponding to Denmark.

The authorities have recommended ships to avoid approaching less than seven miles from the methane gas pool that emerged after the sabotage, instead of the 5 miles that had been recommended until now.

Both Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 were paralyzed at the time of the apparent sabotage, the first due to maintenance problems raised by the Russian side and the second as a political measure after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February. .

However, both pipes contain pressurized gas, specifically methane, which is considered 80 times more polluting for the atmosphere than carbon dioxide. Experts, however, rule out that it could have effects on marine life in the area.
