More than 10,000 Welsh people demonstrate in Cardiff for independence

MADRID, 1 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

More than 10,000 protesters have taken to the streets of Cárdif, the capital of Wales, this Saturday to demand the independence of this historic British nation.

The march is called by All Under One Flag Wales (AUOBCymru) and Wales Yes (YesCymru) and has had in the final speeches the actor Julian Lewis Jones, known for the series 'The House of the Dragon', and the actress and novelist Ffion Dafis.

The leader of the Welsh Party (Plaid Cymru), Adam Price, and other party personalities such as Leanne Wood and Dafydd Wigley have also been there, according to the WalesOnline news portal.

The march saw Welsh flags, Welsh football team hats and a samba band behind a large banner bearing the word 'Annibyniaeth', independence in Welsh.

In July some 8,000 people supported a pro-independence call in Wrexham and there were previously similar marches in Caernarfon and Merthyr Tydfil. In Cardif the previous demonstration was in May 2019.

"In the face of the British Government's recent tax cuts for the wealthy and the continuing erosion of workers' rights, it is more important than ever that people come together and say that we do not trust Westminster to look out for Welsh interests," he said. an AUOBCymru spokeswoman, Harriet Protheroe-Soltani.

The latest YouGov poll for ITV Wales and Cardiff University puts support for independence in a hypothetical referendum at 24 percent. 52 percent say they would vote against it and 14 percent don't know what they would do. The Welsh Party holds 13 of the 60 seats in the Senedd or Welsh Parliament.
