Military Association asks Robles to clarify if asbestos has been found at the Torrejón base

The Unified Association of Spanish Military (AUME) wants to know if cleaning work is being carried out at the Torrejón de Ardoz air base (Madrid) due to the discovery of asbestos contamination and what measures have been adopted to protect the safety of all personnel who works there.

AUME has raised these questions in writing to the Ministry of Defense after the news published by the newspaper El Mundo that ensures that a private company is carrying out asbestos cleaning tasks at the base managed by the Air Force.

The association also asks the head of Defense, Margarita Robles, if preventive measures have been taken to avoid contamination of base workers and why a procedure of information and prevention and protection measures has not been initiated. .

And if not, he wants to know if an investigation is going to be ordered to determine possible responsibilities "in the more than probable breach of risk prevention, health and environmental protection regulations."

The Torrejón base houses numerous units inside, such as the Military Emergency Unit (UME) or the Air Operations Center of the southern region of NATO.
