Marcos Alonso: "We arrived at a good moment, but I don't think we're favourites"

MADRID, 3 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The defender of FC Barcelona Marcos Alonso has ensured that the team arrives "at a good time", as leader of LaLiga Santander, to the match of the third day of the group stage of the Champions League against Inter Milan, but not believes that they are "favorites" against a rival "well worked tactically, very physical and with top quality".

"We know it's an important game. Inter is a great team, well worked tactically, very physical and with high quality. We arrived at a good moment and we know how important the three points are. I don't think we're favourites, Inter are a great rival and it will be a difficult game," he declared at a press conference.

In this sense, he explained that they must "be very focused" on the Giuseppe Meazza. "We arrived at a good time. It's a bit early to talk about candidates for the 'Champions'," he said. "We have a team to fight for everything, the motivation and desire are there, we need to work and show it on the field. I'm sure good results will come," he said.

However, he downplayed the fact that they had become leaders of LaLiga Santander. "The important thing is to be there at the end of the season. We have to continue working in the same way, with great enthusiasm, and that the results continue to arrive", he stressed.

Regarding his adaptation to the team, the man from Madrid explained that he is still trying to fit in 100%. "Little by little I am adapting to the new team, the new coach and the new teammates. I try to be 100% for when the coach needs me," he said, before talking about the possibility of playing as a central defender on the left. "It would not be the first time, if the coach considers it, I will try to do my best, even if it is not my natural position".

"I just arrived. We all want to play every game, but my mission is to be ready for when the coach needs me. We'll see if I'm coming in more, but I'm happy and looking forward to it," he said, assessing the competition on the left side. "The coexistence is very good with everyone, the atmosphere is very good. Both the competition and the good atmosphere are reflected in the field, it is something good for the team", he continued.

Finally, he praised the great moment of form of the Polish Robert Lewandowski. "I knew him from having played against him, he had already suffered from him. It doesn't surprise me, if he's not the best, he's one of the best. Let's hope he continues in this dynamic," he concluded.
