Mali's military junta accuses Macron of fomenting ethnic hatred in the country

MADRID, 1 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Mali's military junta has accused French President Emmanuel Macron of fomenting ethnic hatred in Mali on Sunday, and has assured that France "has always worked" for the division and partition of his country.

These accusations have taken place in response to the statements that the French president made on July 28 during his visit to Guinea Bissau, in which he assured that the transitional government of Mali "is an accomplice" of the Russian private military group Wagner for its " ineffective" fight against terrorism.

"Given that it is clear that the decisions taken this Thursday by the Malian junta and its de facto complicity with the Wagner militia are particularly ineffective in the fight against terrorism, that is no longer their objective and that is what presided over our decision. to leave Mali," Macron said, appealing to the departure of the French ambassador from the country on January 31, according to 'La Presse'.

As a result of the words of the French president, the Malian military junta has shown its "profound indignation" and has condemned comments that it has described as "hateful and defamatory".

"The Transitional Government calls on national and international opinion to bear witness to these serious accusations that can arouse ethnic hatred and undermine coexistence, cohesion and harmony among Malians," the transitional Executive said in a statement.

"It is important that President Macron constantly reminds France of its negative role and responsibility in the genocide of the Tutsis in Rwanda, a fact that still saddens humanity," the Malian government stressed.

In this sense, the Malian military junta has maintained that France "has always worked for the division" of the country, for which it has asked Macron to abandon "his neo-colonial, paternalistic and condescending position".

On the other hand, the Malian Executive has recognized that, in recent years, the country's social fabric has deteriorated due to community conflicts "instrumented by terrorist groups and their groups and their foreign state sponsors."

"The transitional government recalls that strengthening social cohesion continues to be one of its priority non-negotiable objectives and will spare no effort to achieve it in order to succeed in this mission," he added, defending the role of the country's Armed Forces for his defense of the fatherland.
