Macron warns of the "end of abundance" in the face of the energy and climate crisis in Europe

MADRID, 24 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

French President Emmanuel Macron warned on Wednesday of the "end of abundance" as a result of the energy crisis in Europe, disruptions in the supply chain and the impact of the prolonged drought plaguing the European continent.

"Basically, we are experiencing the end of abundance: that of free liquidity, that of products and technologies that seemed perpetually available to us (and) the breakdown of value chains (...) We will have arrangements to make ", he pointed out.

In this sense, the French president has pointed out that the scarcity of water has been felt this summer in the face of the great wave of fires that Europe is experiencing, for which he has thanked the firefighters and farmers for their work in the face of these natural disasters, according to what he has collected the newspaper 'Le Parisien'.

Macron has also cited the challenges facing the country, beyond "the climate crisis and its consequences", as "new risks", including cyber, as well as the crisis of universal values in the international environment, which has put in check concepts such as democracy or human rights.

"The rise of illiberal regimes, the strengthening of authoritarian regimes, and we have seen it again in the uninhibited speeches of recent months, are clear," Macron explained, according to the BFMTV network.

"We must respond seriously and credibly. Let's not give in to demagoguery," warned the French president, adding that the regime of freedom in France "has a cost" that may require sacrifices.
