Iberdrola advances in the construction of its Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm (France)

MADRID, 3 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Iberdrola has taken a further step in the construction of its Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm, in the waters of French Brittany, with the start of work this Friday to move from the Navantia-Windar facilities in Fene (Galicia) the ' jackets' of the 61 wind turbines that the facility will have, which will have a capacity of 500 megawatts (MW), reported the energy company.

For their transfer, these foundations -weighing 1,150 tons, 75 meters high and 25 meters wide and resting on three legs- will be installed on the Sarens Caroline barge, mobilized by the Van Oord company, which will be in charge of its installation in the site.

In total, a dozen ships are expected to be moved. The first 'jackets' are scheduled to be installed in Saint-Brieuc this summer.

This park will have a marked Spanish stamp, since, in addition to the 'jackets', the piles will also be entirely built and assembled by Navantia-Windar in Fene (A Coruña).

With a value of 350 million euros, it is the largest offshore wind contract in the history of the shipping company, which will create more than 2,000 direct jobs and thousands of indirect jobs.

As a result of this agreement, Navantia-Windar has put into operation a plant in Brest, where part of the foundation components for this offshore wind project have been built.

Iberdrola is building Saint-Brieuc in collaboration with the French companies RES and Caisse des Dépôts, both belonging to the Ailes Marines consortium, owned by the Spanish energy company.

Once operational, it will become the company's fourth such facility, after West of Duddon Sands, located in the Irish Sea; Wikinger, in the Baltic Sea; e East Anglia ONE, one of the largest offshore wind farms in the world, located in the southern part of the North Sea.

Offshore wind power is one of the keys to Iberdrola's growth, which has an operating capacity, portfolio and developments in the initial phase of more than 30,000 MW.

Focused on countries with ambitious goals, the group chaired by Ignacio Sánchez Galán expects to have 12,000 MW of offshore wind power in operation by 2030 and to achieve accumulated investments of over 30,000 million euros worldwide.

Offshore wind energy has established itself as one of the company's main growth vectors. At the end of the last financial year, Iberdrola had already reached 1,260 MW offshore in operation, 1,800 MW under construction and 5,400 MW in advanced development, which will come into operation before 2027.

The group has a portfolio of projects in the United States, United Kingdom, Poland, Sweden, Ireland, Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines and Brazil, which could increase in the coming years thanks to the numerous auctions in which it is participating.

The potential investments associated with this portfolio of projects, many of which could mature beyond 2030, could be estimated at 90,000 million euros.
