Half of the companies between 10 and 50 employees request the Digital Kit

The general director of Red.es believes that cryptocurrencies must be regulated

MADRID, 24 May. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The general director of Red.es, Alberto Martínez Lacambra, assured this Tuesday that practically 60,000 companies with between 10 and 50 employees will have requested the Digital Kit by the end of the day, one out of every two eligible.

During his speech at the New Economy Forum, Martínez highlighted the importance and scope of the program to digitize SMEs, which he considers to be without comparison at a European level and to be the most ambitious in the history of Spain due to its capillarity.

Among the virtues of the reception of the program, the general director of Red.es has emphasized its backbone. Soria is the province in which a higher percentage of SMEs have completed the application with 70%, in a list where Palencia (62%), Lleida and Burgos (56%) and Teruel (55%) also stand out.

"We have to push so that this opportunity is taken advantage of. It is a unique opportunity," he stressed at various points in his speech. Later, he added that medium-sized companies are the "easy part" of the program and has asked for business collaboration to reach SMEs and the self-employed with the aim of boosting productivity in this sector, which employs 51% of the population.

Martínez has underlined the importance of the 'zero paper' philosophy so that SMEs are encouraged to apply for aid, as well as the importance of the figure of the voluntary representative.

The general director was introduced by the president of Hispasat, Jordi Hereu, who highlighted his work ethic, as well as his experience both in private companies and in public management.

The general director of Red.es has also stressed that the entity is more than the Digital Kit and has highlighted some of its powers such as the management of the Red Iris, which connects Spanish research centers, smart tourism projects, urban planning or the management of the '.es' domain.

Likewise, it has denied that there is an oversize of the public sector by recalling that the ratio of public employees per population is lower than in most large European and Scandinavian countries.

"Now, like all organizations, especially large ones, (the public sector) suffers from pathologies. All large organizations have to correct these pathologies," he acknowledged, later identifying artificial intelligence as a technology that could help correct this end.

The general director of Red.es has also spoken about the fall in cryptocurrencies and has considered that "it was a matter of time" before such a fall in the valuation of these assets would occur due to their nature.

"It is clear that we need regulation, regulation and regulation, especially for what may affect the financial sector", he remarked in this regard.

Regarding digital talent, the manager highlighted Spain's potential to attract digital nomads and the impact that regulatory changes such as the startup law will have when it comes to attracting international talent such as digital nomads.

In this sense, he also highlighted the launch of the national plan for digital skills in the second half of the year by the Secretary of State for Digitization and Artificial Intelligence.

Likewise, he considered the visit to Davos by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, to be "very healthy", and highlighted the importance of doing a "road show" with investors to present them with the benefits of Spain as a destination for their capital.

Martínez Lacambra, a native of Barcelona, has also been asked about the thesis of the decrease in the economy, which he has assured that he theoretically shares 99%, but considers inapplicable in practice.

"(The economy) is a convention based on growth to make it work. This is going like a bullet train. Whoever gets off the train will not get back on," he warned.

"If in a city we give up expanding the capacity of the airport and the hotel expansion, the world does not stop. We will get off and the train will leave," he added, referring to Barcelona and the stoppage of the expansion of the Barcelona airport. El Prat after the dispute between the Central Government and the regional government.

Likewise, he has called for political consensus around digitization to boost GDP growth, productivity and wealth.
