Germany finalizes an injection of 8,000 million to rescue Uniper and buy its participation from Fortum

MADRID, 20 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Government of Germany, Uniper and Fortum are finalizing the details of the rescue program of the German gas company, which would lead the German State to take over 86% of the company's share capital, as reported by the companies this Tuesday in a statement. .

The new rescue package contemplates a capital increase of 8,000 million euros that will be subscribed exclusively by the Government of Germany, as reported by Uniper.

For its part, the Finnish Fortum has confirmed that the negotiations also include the possibility of selling its entire stake in Uniper to Germany.

The deal has not yet been closed, although Fortum's listing has been suspended on the Helsinki Stock Exchange until negotiations are finalized.

According to the first rescue plan, agreed in July, Germany would enter Uniper's capital with a 30% stake, while Fortum would see its share diluted to 56%. If the German state finally takes over Fortum's share, its stake in the gas company would rise to 86%.

Uniper's price had fallen 8% until 3:00 p.m. After knowing the first information about this possible agreement, the price has rebounded almost 10%, reaching around 4.08 euros, which is equivalent to 1.34% more than at the close on Monday.

Uniper recorded losses of 12,418 million euros in the first six months of 2022, in contrast to the negative result of 20 million in the same period of the previous year, as a result of the impact of the substantial reduction in gas supply from Russia.
