Garzón assures that Vox's attack on Montero is "against a way of thinking about democracy"

MADRID, 26 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The federal coordinator of the United Left and Minister of Consumption, Alberto Garzón, assured this Saturday that Vox's attack on the Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, is not directed against a person but "against a way of thinking about democracy", and has once again given its support to the leader of Podemos.

"The violence against our partner Irene Montero is not an attack directed against a person, it is an attack and violence directed against an idea, against a way of thinking about democracy and, therefore, I have to return to vindicate the maximum solidarity with our colleague Irene Montero", Garzón has transferred in relation to the attack he received in the plenary session of Congress by the Vox deputy Carla Toscano, who affirmed that the only merit of the minister is "having studied in depth" to her husband and former leader of Podemos, Pablo Iglesias.

In these terms, Garzón expressed himself during his speech at the public event 'We take care of the close' that this formation has organized to reaffirm its municipalist vocation and its territorial roots in the face of the next appointment of the municipal and regional elections in May 2023.

Likewise, the Minister of Consumption has charged against the speeches of the extreme right that seek to "transmit hate" to "dehumanize the adversary, in this case, progressive people and people on the left" and "ultimately criminalize and create an environment of greater tension".

In this key, the leader of Izquierda Unidad has vindicated the role of municipalism in a context threatened by the extreme right and capitalism, while he has praised the solidity of the programs of Izquierda Unida and its background.

Garzón, who has underlined the complexity of the moment due to the multiple crises, has pointed out the need to incorporate into the social class the idea that crises are not the same for everyone and that they are not managed in the same way "when the right-wing do ".

Thus, he has ensured that these crises "do not stop being but different expressions of a single economic and social crisis, that of capitalism." "That is why the municipal role is so important, not seen merely as an institutional instrument, but as the first step to build a different society", he added.

Immediately afterwards, he pointed out that the IU will continue working "for the benefit of the working class, for the benefit of a just country, a country that lives within the limits of the planet, a country of equality, a country of democracy, of everything that threatens the extreme right and capitalism".

In this sense, he has ensured that IU consolidates its capacity to transform society at the municipal level. Thus, he highlighted the "baggage" of the organization that has more than 35 years of history. "We are not newcomers," Garzón has emphasized, while he has emphasized that IU crystallizes that experience in a program with which they make the "best diagnosis" and which they complement with "political action." Of course, he has warned that this is insufficient if there is no organization and political fabric in the territories.

Convinced that the party is perceived as a "recognizable force that can be trusted", he has asserted that this would not be possible without militancy from the territories. "Programs have first and last names and people need to trust not only the program, but a certain person who gives them confidence, who gives them security," he added.

He has also valued the "solvency" that defines this party that "has been in the villages all his life." "We do not come to represent the people as if we were an external agent," she pointed out. With everything, Garzón has transferred all the support to the places in which the candidacies of Izquierda Unida present themselves because "the challenge is enormous."
