France's CPI moderates in August to 5.8%

MADRID, 31 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) of France rose four tenths in August in relation to the previous month, but moderated its interannual rate to 5.8% from 6.1% in July, according to preliminary data published this Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee).

Likewise, the year-on-year figure for harmonized inflation in France, which Eurostat uses in its calculations, stood at 6.5% in August, which represents a relief of three tenths compared to the 6.8% rise in prices in July.

The Insee has attributed the moderation in the rise in prices to the slowdown in the cost of energy, while the rise in the prices of services would have been maintained and that of manufactured goods and food would have accelerated.

Specifically, in the month of August the year-on-year rise in the price of energy moderated to 22.2% from 28.5% in July, while the cost of food accelerated to 7.7% from 6, 8% and that of services kept the year-on-year rise stable at 3.9%.
