Felipe VI: "Nadal is the king of tennis"

MADRID, 5 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

King Felipe VI recognized that the Spanish tennis player Rafa Nadal has earned the title of "king of tennis" after winning the Roland Garros tournament for the fourteenth time on Sunday.

"He is the king of Roland Garros and the king of tennis," the Spanish monarch told the media, after witnessing the French Open final at the Philippe Chatrier.

Nadal added to his legend with a three-set victory over Norway's Casper Ruud, a 14-for-14 final in Paris. Felipe VI also recognized his concern for the physical condition of a Nadal who had to play these two weeks with his foot asleep.

"He has given us a clue that he may continue. Let's hope that his foot allows it. It is clear that he wants to. It is a show and Spain thanks him and has to honor him for many years," he concluded.
