Felipe VI defends "new mobility models" that are "respectful" with the environment

MADRID, 13 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

King Felipe VI has defended this Monday establishing "new mobility models" that are "environmentally friendly" because "it is vital" to "minimize the effects" of the climate crisis and has assured that it is "a great challenge " that challenges "governments, companies and civil society as a whole", for which it requires "everyone's contributions".

This is how the monarch spoke at the official dinner of Global Mobility Call (GMC) 2022, the new project of Ifema Madrid and Smobhub, which aims to lead the ecosystem of sustainable mobility and the process of transformation and industrial development internationally from Madrid what will you take with you.

Felipe VI has assured that sustainable mobility has been placed "at the center of public policies" and also in "innumerable initiatives of a private nature", with the precise purpose of addressing "the challenge that climate change represents and contributing to the fight against its consequences.

The King praised this Congress which, as he said, "is called to be an international benchmark for sustainable mobility and transversal innovation". "Our presence here shows the unanimous support for an edition that we hope will be the first of many, the starting point to make this" call to action for global mobility an essential annual event ", he claimed.

In this context, he explained that mobility "involves much more than the movement of people or goods between different points". "It has a direct impact on citizens: on their quality of life, on the environment that surrounds them, on the energy they consume or on the development of the cities in which they live, to name just a few aspects", he clarified.

For this reason, he has advocated sustainable mobility that "involves a transport system that includes less polluting alternatives and that promotes energy efficiency", something that, he has stressed, is "a demand of society that, in this 21st century, wants cleaner environments, respectful of health and the environment; that tries to be part of the transformation of the world with its daily and daily decisions and actions".

"It also represents a great opportunity from an economic and industrial point of view. No one is oblivious to the transformation on a global scale that sectors such as the automobile industry are experiencing, which in the case of Spain also plays a strategic role in productivity, GDP and job creation", recalled Felipe VI.

In his speech, the King highlighted the fact that Spain stands out in the manufacture of electric cars and "occupies an outstanding position in segments such as motorcycles and buses", in addition to having "a benchmark value chain in infrastructure of recharging said vehicles".

"In the same way, new business models have emerged that integrate mobility and digitization and facilitate the choice of the best transport alternatives instantly or the management of shared trips", he added.

According to Felipe VI, Spain "is showing that it can respond to new internal needs with its own technology" and is being "capable of innovating in mobility", with the "necessary potential for the transition to carbon-free mobility to generate economic activity and employment".

Likewise, the monarch has stated that the conclusions of the Global Mobility Call (GMC) "will have a very relevant impact in areas such as the automotive industry, transport, logistics, urban planning, infrastructure management or energy".

"Spain not only wants to take advantage of the opportunities for transformation and modernization of the economy that sustainable mobility can promote. It aspires to lead this process in Europe and become a pole of attraction for investment", claimed the Head of State.
