The Popular Group bench receives Feijóo with applause upon his arrival at the chamber and stands up after promising the Constitution

MADRID, 25 May. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The leader of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has taken possession of his seat in the Senate this Wednesday, where he will install his office as head of the opposition and where he plans to hold his first 'face to face' with the head of the Executive in June, Peter Sanchez.

Feijóo, who arrived at the Upper House around 8:45 a.m. to complete the necessary documentation to acquire full senator status, was greeted with loud applause from the senators of the Popular Group, who stood up when he promised office.

The president of the Senate, Ander Gil, has asked him if he swears or promises to abide by the Constitution. "Yes, I promise", has been the formula used by Feijóo. For his part, the Deputy Secretary for Territorial Organization of the PP, Miguel Tellado, who also took possession of his seat in the Senate this Wednesday, has opted for "yes, I swear."

Feijóo and Tellado have taken their seats in the Upper House a few hours after being appointed senators by regional designation in the Galician Parliament and resigning from their acts as regional deputy.

Feijóo's arrival in the Senate will allow him to hold parliamentary duels with Pedro Sánchez, although it is true that unlike the 'scuffles' that occur in Congress, the presence of the Chief Executive in this Chamber is less and only half has attended dozen times in the last few months.

The first face-to-face in the Senate between Sánchez and Feijóo is scheduled to take place on February 7. "In the control sessions, normally if the president has the session well prepared, he usually wins them, because he closes them," he admitted to journalists on Tuesday when asked if he wants to confront the chief executive.

The leader of the PP, who is already president of the Popular Group for being head of the opposition, will have an office in the Upper House and his intention is to attend the plenary sessions as much as his agenda allows, according to sources from his team.

Parliamentary sources have indicated that Feijóo will have his office in the Palace area, just where until now the fourth secretary of the Senate Table, the PP senator from Burgos Cristina Ayala, was.

This Friday, Feijóo has summoned the members of the parliamentary groups of Congress, Senate and European Parliament in the hemicycle of the Senate itself. There, before the representatives in the three chambers of representation, he "will set the priorities for this new stage."

This meeting -the PP parliamentarians have already received this call by email, quoting them at 11:00 am- will take place just after the adjustments have been made in Congress and the Senate. Feijóo has decided to keep the three parliamentary spokespersons, Cuca Gamarra, Javier Maroto and Dolors Montserrat, but he has made changes in the second levels.

Thus, in Congress, Gamarra's new 'number two' will be Carlos Rojas, from Granada, replacing Guillermo Mariscal, who becomes deputy general secretary. In the case of the Senate, the new 'number two' of Javier Maroto is Amelia Salanueva, who replaces the senator of the Valencian Community Salomé Pradas. There have also been adjustments in the deputy spokespersons of both Chambers and, in the case of the Senate, the veteran Javier Arenas enters that position
