Feijóo sees the measures only for Cercanías trains as unfair and asks Sánchez for similar treatment in road transport

He says that there are "many places" without Cercanías or Media Distancia and asks that there be "balance" in rail and road transport

The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has demanded this Tuesday from the Government a similar treatment for train and road transport because, as he has said, there are "many places" in Spain that do not have Cercanías or Media Distancia. In his opinion, the Government's proposal extending to 2023 the gratuity of these trains without offering a "similar voucher for public road transport" is an "unbalanced" and "unfair" proposal from the territorial point of view.

This is how Feijóo has pronounced after the Government has decided to maintain free transportation on Cercanías and Media Distancia trains for recurring passengers during the year 2023, thus extending a measure that was initially going to end on December 31 of this year. The announcement was made by the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, during the press conference after the Council of Ministers that gave the green light to the project of the General State Budgets (PGE).

In statements to journalists in the Senate, Feijóo assured that there are "many square kilometers, in many places in Spain, and millions of citizens who do not have Cercanías or Media Distancia" and, therefore, it would be "logical" to also offer them "a similar bonus for public road transport".

As he said, it is about "public transport by road and rail transport having a balance and similar treatment", given that "the majority of citizens who live in most of the square kilometers of Spain do not have discount on your transportation.

"There are others that do, not only discounts but free. That is an unbalanced proposal and it is an unfair proposal from the territorial and citizens' point of view," said the opposition leader, who pointed out that the PP defends a "reasonable" proposal for all citizens to be treated similarly.

On the other hand, the leader of the PP has welcomed being able to "confront" two fiscal models with the President of the Government and has indicated that the one defending his party is trying at this time of "so much difficulty" not to take so much money out of people's pockets, especially low income.

"There is a very clear model that is to scratch money from people who don't have money, because they can no longer make ends meet. And there is another model that is a little more sensitive from the social point of view, which consists of what is has paid more to buy the same thing, at least to people with low income, give it back", he emphasized.

In the case of Congress, it is expected that this debate may take place next Thursday, October 13, after the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Day. In the case of the Senate, October 18 is weighed for the 'face to face' between Sánchez and Feijóo on taxes.
