MADRID, 28 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, had a "cordial" dinner with Vice President Yolanda Díaz just a few days ago, a meeting that took place at the request of the person also responsible for the Sumar platform. Shortly before, the head of the opposition had met with the president of Vox, Santiago de Vox, at the request of this party, and in October he plans to have a meeting with the president of the PNV, Andoni Ortuzar, according to sources from the leadership of the PP.

'Genoa' has framed these Feijóo contacts in the "normality" of the conversations that a political leader should have, underlining that the PP is not in the "trench" but is committed to dialogue. In fact, he has recalled that in July he already met with the president of UPN, Javier Esparza, and with the president of the Canarian Coalition, Fernando Clavijo.

The national leadership of the PP has indicated that the meeting with Abascal, which it has also described as "cordial and fruitful", was at the request of the leader of Vox, and served to get to know each other. Both leaders shared impressions on the national political context, agreeing on "part of the diagnosis" of the situation, although differing in the way of dealing with it, according to what the 'popular' have reported.

During the meeting, Feijóo told the president of Vox that he wants to win the elections and try to govern alone, while Abascal then reminded him that there are no longer absolute majorities in Spain, according to the sources consulted.

During the talk, the president of the PP also wanted to make it clear that in Galicia he stopped nationalism at the head of the Xunta and defended in this sense his language policy, making it clear that he is not a "dangerous nationalist" as he has sometimes been cataloged, according to sources from the Popular Party.

The meeting between Feijóo and Abascal took place last Thursday, four days after the Barcelona demonstration organized by 'Escuela de todos' in favor of Spanish in Catalan schools. The leader of the PP was absent from that call - he was at the same time closing his party's Interparliamentary in Toledo - something that was harshly criticized by Vox and Cs.

The president of the PP and that of Vox agreed to continue talking and pick up the phone whenever there is an issue of interest, an attitude that, according to 'Génova', fits in with Feijóo's dialoguing profile, who rejects the "politics of blocks ".

Feijóo himself rejected this Wednesday, upon arrival at his conference before the United States Chamber of Commerce in Spain, that the meeting with Abascal was secret. "If it was secret you wouldn't have found out", he snapped at the journalists when they asked him on arrival.

In the case of Yolanda Díaz, sources from the PP leadership explain that both have a long relationship because they coincided in the Galician Parliament, where for three years the now vice president asked her from the opposition.

The same sources have pointed out that Díaz suggested meeting him in the summer and, in the end, as it was not possible, they agreed to do so after the return of the political course. In the end, that meeting materialized just a few days ago and it was Díaz who invited the president of the PP.

During the meeting they discussed different current political issues, the result of the trust they maintain. From the PP they frame these meetings in a context of "political normality" and anticipate that Feijóo "could establish other private meetings with other leaders of Spanish politics in the coming weeks."

For now, the leader of the PP plans to meet in October with the president of the PNV, according to sources from the PP leadership. Feijóo himself has highlighted on more than one occasion his good relationship with both Ortuzar and the Lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu.

"We have held the elections together in 2012, in 2016 and in 2020. And in 2020 there was a pandemic. Therefore, one knows the PNV and knows that there are things in which we agree and things in which we do not," he said. Feijóo last August, in an interview with Europa Press.

Another of the meetings that the leader of the PP also has pending is with his predecessor, Pablo Casado, which remains undated, according to sources from the party leadership. Two weeks ago, Feijóo advanced that he will be seen "soon" alone with the former leader of the PP, who asked him if he would like to speak with him.

"We have spoken a couple of times. We are going to see each other alone soon. He has told me that he would like to talk to me and of course available," Feijóo assured in an interview in La Sexta, collected by Europa Press, about a meeting with his predecessor after the harsh internal crisis that the party experienced in February and that ended with the departure of Casado as leader of the PP.
