Feijóo denounces the "furious" response of the Government to his judicial offer when the CGPJ is "a kind of zombie"

MADRID, 12 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has denounced the Government's rejection of his offer to renew the Constitutional Court and the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) despite the fact that his formation is willing to "postpone" his proposal to modify the law so that "the judges choose the judges" and only requires, he stressed, to now apply some "suitability criteria" to the candidates. That said, he has warned that at this time the Council "is a kind of zombie" because "it cannot exercise the constitutional powers it has".

"The Government's response has been furious, it has seemed very surprising to us that the Government does not accept or even talk about this matter again. Its responsibility is there and ours too," he declared, after the Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños has pointed out that the PP's letter is an attempt to "appear to the gallery" that the Council wants to renew.

In an interview on the Cope chain, which Europa Press has picked up, Feijóo has indicated that "a change of cards" or "names" with a "list" of the PSOE and its allies together with the PP is a procedure that "is not admissible "Right now in Europe.

Given the fact that this Tuesday the deadline given to the CGPJ to appoint two members of the TC ends, Feijóo has admitted that it would be "good" to know who the Executive candidates are in order to have "information on what profiles he trusts" for that court.

That said, he has criticized the two laws that the Executive has promoted, first to "empty" the CGPJ of powers and then to grant it "partial powers subject to a term" to appoint only two members of the TC, something that, in his opinion, supposes an "intervention" in the Judiciary.

"Both laws, the jurists know that they are unconstitutional. Therefore, here the renewal of the CGPJ is being blackmailed based on a law, knowing that this law is unconstitutional, something that is especially serious," he emphasized, to warn that that produces "insecurity and anxiety" unbecoming of a democratic system like the Spanish.
