Feijóo calls for a Conference of Presidents for the energy saving plan and accuses Sánchez of "improvising"

The president of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has requested the convocation of the Conference of Presidents next week to address the energy saving plan approved on Monday in the Council of Ministers, and has accused the president of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez, of " improvise" the meeting of the Energy Sector Conference, which will be attended by the highest regional officials in the areas of Energy, Tourism and Trade.

Feijóo, who is attending today the Serenissimo Albariño Chapter, within the framework of the LXX Albariño Festival held in Cambados (Pontevedra), has declared to the press that the call for this sectoral conference is "once again, it is an improvisation of something that is not minor, which is the need to save on energy in Spain and in Europe as a whole".

"Sánchez flies over, in the strict sense, the problems of the majority of Spaniards, instead of facing them with agreements, with dialogue, with reflection, with a good diagnosis, with a good proposal. He simply improvises, adopting unilateral measures", he stated. Feijoo.

On the other hand, the president of the PP considers that "the logical thing" would have been to convene the presidents of the Autonomous Communities in the spring to talk and specify the measures to reduce energy consumption. In this sense, he has stressed that the communities will be the ones that "have to apply the measures, ensure their compliance and, above all, their sanction".

Feijóo has recalled that the PP has already put on the table some measures to reduce energy dependence, such as increasing all energy sources, extending the useful life of nuclear power plants, reducing the price of CO2, "not affecting" the capacity of production of certain companies due to the increase in the price of energy, as would be the case of the primary aluminum factory in Cervo (Lugo), which "remains closed".

He has insisted that, despite the fact that the Conference of Presidents has met more than 20 times, on this occasion, it is preferring to resort to a sectoral conference with regional councilors, instead of addressing the presidents.

"Sánchez has been meeting the Conference of Presidents more than 20 times, some of them to celebrate the reduction of the restrictions of the pandemic. And, in the face of such a fundamental fact as taking measures, not for a week, but for a year and a half, until November of next year, a plan is improvised, a helicopter is taken, then he gets on a plane and goes on vacation. And now, 48 hours after starting the measures, another is improvised, which is to summon the councilors to a state issue," he said.

Thus, he has requested that a Conference of Presidents be "stopped and convened this week", so that at the end of it, mechanisms are established at the regional level, which are in charge of applying and sanctioning the measures. "So that they have a voice and a vote in all the decisions that affect the reduction of energy consumption in Spain", he concluded.
