Feijóo attributes Tornero's resignation to Sánchez's "iron control" on RTVE: "Either you do what they tell you or they stop you"

He says that what happened in RTVE proves that the Government "unilaterally breaks" what was agreed and that "it does not even respect the pacts"

PALMA, 27 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has blamed this Tuesday the "mandatory resignation" of José Manuel Pérez Tornero to the "iron control" that the Government of Pedro Sánchez wants in RTVE, not liking how the current president of the corporation "directs the string". After accusing the Executive of "unilaterally breaking" what was agreed upon and "not even respecting the pacts", he pointed out that it is "very difficult to trust a government that is occupying the institutions".

"Either you do what they tell you or they simply fire you," said Feijóo, after the president of the RTVE Corporation announced his intention to present "in the next few hours" his resignation from the Presidency of RTVE, and to form part of his board of directors, eighteen months after taking office.

Speaking to the media at the Pere Garau Market in Palma, Feijóo stated that Tornero's "mandatory resignation" confirms what has been happening in Spain "for months: the Government's takeover of the institutions."

"They have dismissed the director of the CNI for complying with the instructions of the Government; they have dismissed the director of the INE because the national accounting data does not please the Government; and yesterday they have asked for the resignation of the director of the RTVE company, which was born from a pact between the big parties, simply because he doesn't like how he runs the chain", he has proclaimed.

The leader of the opposition has pointed out that this "confirms once again the use of state institutions by the government." And institutions, he has continued, "are of the State, they are not of the Government".

"It is very difficult to trust a government that is occupying the institutions and I regret that RTVE is also subject to the strict control of the government," he asserted, to review again what happened in the CNI, the INE and "now" the corporation of RTVE.

Feijóo recalled that Tornero was the subject of a pact that included "the appointment of the board of directors and the director of RTVE" and added that the fact that the Government "unilaterally breaks that pact" and "forces the dismissal of a person that they had chosen by a pact", "proves that not even the Government respects the pacts". "This is especially serious", he has emphasized him.

When asked if this fact further distances the agreement for the renewal of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ), whose mandate has expired for more than three and a half years, Feijóo recalled the judicial proposal made by his party to "deepen" in the professionalization and independence of the governing body of the judges and that the Government has not answered.

That said, he has stated that "the feeling" that the PP has is that the PSOE and Podemos government has a pact "with ERC and other partners" to "appoint magistrates of the Constitutional Court" and "renewal is not one of its priorities. of the CGPJ".
