Escrivá reaffirms that tax competition between Autonomous Communities "weakens" public services: "This dynamic is perverse"

MADRID, 20 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, José Luis Escrivá, has reaffirmed himself in the "reflection" that he launched this Tuesday on the different taxes between autonomous communities, emphasizing that this tax competition causes, in his opinion, "a weakening of the welfare state".

"This dynamic is perverse," Escrivá stressed this Tuesday afternoon in statements to the media in the corridor of the Senate after the criticism he received for his words in which he advocated centralizing taxes to avoid "nonsense of competition between autonomous communities.

Given this, the minister spokesperson, Isabel Rodríguez, recalled that Escrivá's reflection is a "personal opinion", stressing that the Executive's intention is to address any progress on taxation in Spain "hand in hand with the regional financing model" .

Already in the afternoon, Escrivá has defended that this reflection has been saying "a long time" and, from his point of view, "it is in the spirit of many people". "This tax competition between autonomous communities leads us to a weakening of the welfare state", she has repeated.

These statements have also received a lot of criticism from some autonomous communities, which have made Escrivá ugly about his intention to recentralize certain taxes.
