Escrivá attributes the discrepancies of the Government and the Bank of Spain on GDP to the greater uncertainty

LAS PALMAS DE GRAN CANARIA, 6 Oct. (EUROPE PRESS) -

The Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, José Luis Escrivá, has attributed this Thursday to the high uncertainty the discrepancies between the Government and the Bank of Spain on their GDP growth forecasts in 2023, which the monetary authority estimates at 1 .4% and the Executive, by 2.1%.

In this sense, he has indicated that in the face of an "extraordinarily uncertain environment, it would be desirable" for this type of institution, such as the Bank of Spain, to also raise the "uncertainties" of their estimates.

"In an extraordinarily uncertain environment, it would be desirable, and especially in an environment of current uncertainty, for some institutions to raise the uncertainty of their forecasts," he added in statements to journalists during an act in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

In any case, he has considered "perfectly compatible" the estimates of the Bank of Spain for 2023, which estimates a growth of the economy of 1.4% compared to the 2.1% set by the central government, taking into account the features of " uncertainty".

In this sense, he has clarified that "there is an additional and conservative bias" in the way in which these types of institutions make estimates, hence he has defended that it is "basically similar to what it can be, a few tenths above , a few tenths down, it's not very different".

He added that when the forecasts of the rest of the central banks are known, it will be possible to verify that Spain is among the countries that "are expected to grow the most in 2023" and that "it is resisting better" in an international environment "so complex" in terms of activity and job creation.

On the other hand, when questioned about the completion of the pension reform, he pointed out that the "vast majority" is in agreement, although there are still two elements that are being worked on with the social agents, such as the treatment of people with irregular careers and "the last few years are not the best" to see how to deal with the liquidity problem that arises, as well as the "unstopping of the maximum pension while maintaining the contribution to the system of the maximum contribution base".

He added that, in any case, he intends to raise the reform project in the last quarter of 2022.
