Errejón asks Batet to moderate the air conditioning in Congress: "It's good for the planet"

MADRID, 7 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The spokesman for Más País-Equo in Congress, Íñigo Errejón, has addressed a request to the Congress Table to moderate the use of air conditioning in Parliament's facilities, a saving measure that, in addition, he considers positive for health and for the planet.

At a press conference in Congress, Errejón explained that "it doesn't make much sense" that the air conditioning is put on in all Congress dependencies from eight in the morning, whether or not there are people in the offices.

In his opinion, this practice entails economic costs and health problems, and hence his request to the president, Meritxell Batet: "It is a simple, saving measure, and it is good for the planet and for everyone," he commented.

Air conditioning in official offices has already caused a conflict between the socialist minister, Miguel Sebastián, and the president of Congress, José Bono, at various times during the second legislature of the José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero government.

For the sake of energy savings, the then head of Industry advocated raising the thermostat to moderate the temperature of the air conditioning in the workplace and, in return, advocated that officials go without ties and he practiced it at official events and in the Congress, something that Bono did not like, who publicly reprimanded him for defending the "decency" of the Chamber.
