De Tomás, De Jong, Memphis, Asensio or Cristiano, among the names that did not find an outlet in the market

MADRID, 2 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The transfer market closed in LaLiga Santander with 35 new players registered with their clubs, footballers who arrive at a new destination loaded with enthusiasm and with expectations that they now have to take care of proving or not, while there were also operations that were not successful and that affected players like Raúl de Tomás, Memphis Depay and Marco Asensio or, at an international level, a Cristiano Ronaldo who will have to stay at Manchester United.

The Madrid striker spent a very turbulent summer at Espanyol, plagued by rumors and cross accusations between the player, the club and the fans, something that seemed to lead to an inevitable departure. Sevilla, Manchester United, Real Madrid or Real Sociedad were some of the teams for which he sounded, but on the last day a new name emerged: Rayo Vallecano.

Raúl de Tomás had already been to Vallecas, where he performed at a high level, so it seemed like a great place to rediscover his football. Throughout the last day of the market, information was appearing that said that the operation was going forward, but no one finished announcing the transfer. It was finally done, but the documentation did not arrive at the LaLiga headquarters on time and the player will have to continue with the 'parrot' team.

Another player who seemed already out of his club is Memphis Depay. The Dutchman was the great indicated as the main exit before the barrage of arrivals that FC Barcelona registered in the attack zone. At the beginning of summer there was speculation that it was one of the great Catalan sales, something that was nuanced as the days went by.

For a time it seemed that he had it done with Juventus, where he would arrive without having to pay a transfer and receiving a juicy salary, an operation that the player himself ended up ruling out to stay in Barcelona.

Without leaving Barça, the situation of Frenkie De Jong is similar. The midfielder was the first way the club had to be able to first sign players, and then register them. There was much speculation that his compatriot and supporter Erik ten Hag would go to Manchester United, with a very high transfer price, but he did not work out and will also stay to lend a hand in midfield where he will have minutes .

In the league champion there are also three players who, although it seemed that they were going to leave, will finally continue in white: Álvaro Odriozola, Mariano Díaz and Marco Asensio. The winger seemed to be able to go on loan to Italy, England or back to Real Sociedad and the striker stayed for one more season without practically hearing offers and as the second number '9' after Karim Benzema.

A different situation is that of Balearic midfielder Marco Asensio, one of Madrid's top scorers last season and who preferred to leave the team 'motu proprio' when he saw that his participation had been diluted and because of his ambition to play in the next World Cup. However, the lack of offers or opportunities that fit his preferences have ruled out an exit that Ancelotti himself acknowledged could have taken place.

At Atlético de Madrid, the night was also 'quiet' and although no last-minute reinforcements arrived, they did not lose players like Belgian winger Yannick Carrasco or French striker Antoine Griezmann.

Outside of the greats, other LaLiga teams have also encountered situations of this style, such as Betis, where Loren Morón will continue, Elche, who will keep a key piece such as Argentine striker Lucas Boyé, wanted by clubs like Sevilla as recognized by his sports director Ramón Rodríguez, 'Monchi', or Denis Suárez, who could not leave a Celta in which he is separated.

It is not just a Spanish phenomenon, because outside of Spain the most notorious case has been that of Cristiano Ronaldo, who seemed ready to leave Manchester United after the team failed to qualify for the Champions League. However, and despite a summer full of rumors that placed him at Atlético de Madrid, Olympique de Marseille or Napoli, the Portuguese will continue in Manchester under Erik Ten Hag.
