Clashes outside the Iranian embassy in London leave at least five police officers seriously injured

At least five police officers have been seriously injured as a result of clashes with demonstrators protesting outside the Iranian embassy in London, due to the death of Mahsa Amini, a young man who was in custody for wearing the wrong veil.

Demonstration attendees reportedly climbed barriers near the Iranian diplomatic headquarters in the UK in an attempt to enter the building on Sunday afternoon.

The London Metropolitan Police (MET) has reported that the officers would have suffered injuries after being attacked. The officers suffered injuries, including broken bones, after being attacked with masonry, bottles and other projectiles in unacceptable scenes of violent disorder.

Thus, they have added that they have made a dozen arrests and that they are trying to identify the rest of the criminals in the coming days.

In this sense, Commander Karen Findlay has clarified that they know "that there are people who have not been captured tonight and who committed serious crimes."

"We respect the right of people to peacefully protest and we always work with organizers to make that possible, but we will not tolerate unprovoked attacks on our officers like we have seen today or protests that leave other communities feeling unsafe," Findlay said.

However, the MET has emphasized that the "majority of those who attended the embassy on Sunday" acted in a "responsible manner", despite the fact that "a significant group actively sought to confront the officers and protesters.
