Ciudadanos moves away from Villacís and stresses that he has "never" considered joining other lists

Management sources call on the vice mayor to decide now, even if she has until Sunday

MADRID, 31 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The coordinator of the Ciudadanos parliamentary group in Congress, Guillermo Díaz, stressed this Tuesday that a possible integration of the party into the lists of other formations for the municipal and regional elections in May "was never on the table", once again distancing itself of the deputy mayor of Madrid, Begoña Villacís, in favor of exploring possible alliances.

Villacís has expressed himself publicly in recent days in favor of the Ciudadanos leadership giving local groups freedom to decide how they run for the municipal elections in May, without ruling out the option of allying or integrating with the PP, but the new leadership He made it clear to him on Monday that the party will go to the elections alone because that was "the mandate" that the Executive received in the Extraordinary Assembly in mid-January. And they have already stressed to the deputy mayor that whoever is going to be a Ciudadanos candidate in Madrid must comply with it.

At a press conference from the Lower House, Guillermo Díaz, who was the spokesman for the team that led the refounding of the party, stressed that the "hypothesis" of integration "was never on the table" and has once again guaranteed that Ciudadanos will appear alone to the elections in the capital.

"In the re-foundation, one of the clearest ideas that was brought out is that there is a demand for a liberal and reformist space and nobody has told us that Ciudadanos is not a necessary party, that it has to be diluted or associated with the conservative or socialist party ", has added.

The Permanent Executive approved on Monday the calendar for the primaries from which the candidates for the May elections will emerge. They will be held only in Madrid and Barcelona, as they have the required number of affiliates to hold the vote, as well as in eleven autonomous communities.

This weekend the candidates will be nominated - the term will end on Sunday at the last minute - and the voting will take place between May 15 and 16. For all this, the vice mayor has to decide this weekend, at the latest.

Sources from the 'orange' leadership are betting that Villacís clears up the mystery as soon as possible so that, in the event that he finally decides not to appear in the primary process, the party will have time to build a solid candidacy that will compete in the May elections.

The same sources insist that organizing a primary candidacy is not an easy process, which is why they call on the deputy mayor to make up her mind now, assuming that she doesn't really have much time to decide. The ball is in their court, they add, because the Executive has already approved the calendar.
