Calviño says that the general of 'Mediador' was appointed to the Sahel project with Zoido as Minister of the Interior

MADRID, 2 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The First Vice President, Nadia Calviño, has blamed the Government of Mariano Rajoy for the appointment of the General of the Civil Guard investigated in the 'Mediator case', Francisco Espinosa Navas, to direct GARSI-Sahel, the European project related to contracts from the International Foundation and for Latin America of Administrations and Public Policies (Fiiapp), which Calviño currently chairs.

Calviño, who has insisted this Thursday that the foundation he chairs has already opened an internal investigation to clarify what may have happened, has then assured that the "relationship" of the Fiiapp with Espinosa Navas occurred while the PP was governing.

"The foundation is doing this investigation, but the appointment of this general, in fact, occurred when the government was that of the PP, and the Minister of the Interior was (Juan Ignacio) Zoido and the vice president (Soraya) Sáenz de Santamaría. The relationship was established at that time", he indicated in an interview on Onda Cero, collected by Europa Press.

However, the also Minister of Economic Affairs has stressed that the essential thing is to carry out a "detailed analysis" within the internal investigation that is currently underway, which she recalled that she ordered to open when the news began to be released.

"You have to have zero tolerance for corruption. You are acting with determination, we are talking about the image of the public sector, which is a great responsibility," he proclaimed, before stating that he is ignoring another alleged Fiiapp contract with a dairy company .

This has been expressed when questioned about the contracts that said foundation would have had with the alleged corrupt plot. In the summary of 'Mediator' it is stated that the investigating judge accepted, at the request of the Internal Affairs Service of the Civil Guard, that the public contracts managed by the Fiiapp related to the European project GARSI-Sahel for the training of gendarmes be required.

The first vice president yesterday disassociated the foundation from the alleged corruption plot 'Mediator', which would be led by the former deputy from the PSOE, Juan Bernardo Fuentes Curbelo, and for which the retired general Espinosa Navas is in prison, who was at the head of GARSI-Sahel and, previously, he was head of the Las Palmas Command.

For his part, the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration of the Government, José Luis Escrivá, has avoided responding to whether it seems good to him that the PP advocates that there be an investigation commission on 'Mediator' in Congress and has wanted to emphasize that the government has "zero tolerance" for corruption".

"What is important from the institutional point of view is that each one in their area make the decision in the face of behaviors that unfortunately occur in life", Escrivá has delved into, to lament the "inclination" of a "small percentage of people" to "attitudes clearly nothing exemplary".

For Escrivá it is to emphasize that the Government in this case has reacted quickly and in "other cases" other parties have not done so, as he has stated in statements to TVE, collected by Europa Press.
