Brussels proposes a new round of sanctions against Russia for the escalation in Ukraine and the referendums

Proposes banning European citizens from sitting on the boards of directors of Russian state-owned companies

BRUSELAS, 28 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The European Commission has proposed this Wednesday a new round of sanctions against Russia in response to the escalation in the conflict in Ukraine with the partial mobilization and holding of illegal annexation referendums in the occupied areas.

In a brief statement, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, have presented this package, the eighth since the beginning of the Russian aggression, which will include economic measures to limit Russian industrial and military capacity, in addition to expanding the 'black list' of individuals and companies responsible for the illegal consultations in Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia and the mobilization of reservists.

Specifically, Brussels proposes new prohibitions on imports of Russian products in the single European market, worth 7,000 million, in addition to extending the veto on European exports in the military and technological field with which the EU seeks to undermine the capacity of the Russian Army .

Likewise, Von der Leyen has proposed that European services be stopped being offered to Russia and that European citizens be prohibited from sitting on the boards of directors of Russian state-owned companies. "They should not be able to benefit from European experts," she said.

Regarding the option of setting a maximum price for Russian oil, the head of the European Executive has indicated that Brussels will put on the table the "legal basis" to apply that ceiling to the price of crude oil, in an attempt to reduce Russia's income and stabilize markets.
