Braulio Medel will resign this Tuesday as president of the Unicaja Foundation

MADRID, 14 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of the Unicaja Foundation, Braulio Medel, will resign from his post on Tuesday and will be replaced by José Manuel Domínguez Martínez, sources from the Foundation confirmed to Europa Press.

Medel, whose mandate expired in the fall, announced on April 14 that he would resign from the presidency of the Foundation "in a short period of time" that would allow "an orderly transition."

So, Medel attributed his decision to several reasons, such as the report sent from the Protectorate of Banking Foundations, dependent on the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, which questioned his suitability for the position, the existence of "endless external pressures and persistent hostile media campaigns" and the "imperative attention" to other duties of a personal and family nature.

A few weeks later, the Unicaja Banking Foundation proposed José Manuel Domínguez Martínez as president, who since 1990 and until very recently has held various senior management positions at Caja de Ronda, Unicaja and Unicaja Banco. Domínguez Martínez has a doctorate in Economic Sciences and is Professor of Public Finance at the University of Malaga and, since its creation in 2005, has directed the Edufinet Financial Education Project.

As reported by 'Diario Sur', a board of trustees of the Unicaja Foundation has been convened this Tuesday at the institution's headquarters, which includes in its agenda the acknowledgment and acceptance of Braulio Medel's resignation as trustee and president. In his place, José Manuel Domínguez Martínez will be appointed, thus making effective the relief in the presidency of the Foundation.

Another item on the agenda is the "partial loss of the object of the report requested by the Protectorate." Last March, the Protectorate of Banking Foundations urged the Foundation to commission an independent report from an entity chosen by agreement of all the members of the board of trustees to determine whether the president of the Foundation continued to meet the requirements to hold the position of trustee .

In its letter, the agency dependent on the Ministry of Economic Affairs acknowledged that it had "serious doubts" that Braulio Medel would have "the necessary suitability and commercial and professional honor to carry out his duties" as president of the Unicaja Foundation.

The aforementioned item on the agenda would have the objective of settling the investigation into the suitability of the still president of the Unicaja Foundation.
