Belarra guarantees the stability of the Government but asks the PSOE to change course because there is already enough military spending

He stresses that they are determined to finish the legislature and that the priority now is social investment because "Spain is not at war"

MADRID, 6 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The leader of Podemos and Minister of Social Rights, Ione Belarra, has affirmed that the stability of the Executive is "guaranteed" despite the differences over the increase in the military budget and has defended the advisability of having a "substantive debate" with the PSOE on this issue, given that "every euro spent on military spending is one euro less for health or public education".

In statements to TVE, collected by Europa Press, he stressed that United We Can is determined to complete the legislature and that its objective is to convince its partner, in forums such as the commission to monitor the coalition agreement, of the need to prioritize policies regarding the General Budgets, given that in his opinion military spending is already at "record levels" and "is not exactly low".

Specifically, it has underlined that the budget expenditure on Defense, which fluctuates around 1.2% of GDP, does not reflect all the investment in this area as it is increased with formulas such as extensions of extraordinary credits, such as the one approved yesterday at 1,000 million euros. and that United We Can not like it, through contingency funds, which are then not computed in the public accounts.

Looking ahead to the next meeting of the coalition monitoring commission requested yesterday by the second vice president, Yolanda Díaz; The Minister of Social Rights has explained that they will convey to the Executive the importance of "retuning" with citizens by responding to social priorities, such as combating inflation at a "complex" moment of the legislature.

Moreover, Belarra has emphasized that Spain "is not at war" but rather is suffering from the socioeconomic effects of the war and, therefore, has been stating for several weeks that the public's perception is that the Executive "does not have clear objectives" and It must focus "clearly" on achieving social progress and mark "a milestone" with the 2023 General Budgets.

He has also remarked that the citizenry perceives that it is "We can alone" who raises progressive flags that "must belong to the entire Government" and has listed that the most outstanding achievements stem from proposals from the minority partner, such as the labor reform, the increase in the minimum interprofessional salary or the Trans Law.

Now, the general secretary of Podemos has reported, they have put on the table a detailed program for future public accounts, such as capping fuel prices, creating a fund of 10,000 million to improve public services, raising the SMI again, extend maternity leave to six months, a universal income of 100 euros for children or a tax reform that can no longer be postponed and must include a specific tax on large companies and fortunes.

Despite the differences with her partner, Belarra wanted to be "very clear" in proclaiming that the coalition Executive is a "success of the left" and the one who has fought the most for her has been precisely her space, knowing that achieving these advances that they claim is more complicated from the minority position of United We Can. "Despite what can be said, this is the most stable government of the last decade and we are going to carry out the PGE", she has settled.

Finally, and regarding the criticisms that the popular have launched on the action of the Executive, Belarra has replied that the PP "is not here to give lessons in good management" because "it left people lying" in the previous economic crisis and, under its criterion, the previous PP government was the most unstable it generated in the country because it was "marked by corruption."
