Belarra asks to end the "externalization policy" of borders after the "massacre" at the Melilla fence

He assures that it has been shown that "it necessarily implies a brutal violation of human rights"

MADRID, 4 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Secretary General of Podemos and Minister of Social Rights, Ione Belarra, has called for "leaving behind" the policy of "externalizing borders" after the deaths of migrants at the Melilla fence, as it has been shown that "it necessarily implies a brutal violation of human rights".

This has been transferred this Monday during his speech in the Coordination Council of the purple formation, focused on advancing the priorities of Podemos in the face of the next General Budgets.

His first words have been addressed to show the condolences of his organization to the relatives of the deceased migrants "in the terrible massacre" that occurred on the border between Melilla and Nador (Morocco).

During her speech, Belarra conveyed her "commitment" to trying to promote another immigration policy, based on establishing "legal and safe ways to migrate" since it is what "We have always defended and will continue to defend" Podemos in "all spaces ".

The head of Social Rights has already sent a letter to her counterparts from the Interior and Exteriors, Fernando Grande-Marlaska and José Manuel Albares, requesting the deployment of an independent investigation into the deaths at the Melilla border fence.

In that letter, he urged the adoption of "maximum transparency" in this matter, requesting that the recordings of the video cameras at the border and the communications maintained be safeguarded, with a view to clarifying what happened.

The parliamentary spokesman for United We Can, Pablo Echenique, acknowledged last week that his formation "does not agree" with his government partner when his representatives, including the President of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez, speak of a "violent assault" on the Melilla fence or blame the mafia for what happened "without there having been an investigation".

They also registered a non-law proposal in Congress that called for this independent investigation and a condemnation of the actions of the Moroccan gendarmerie, after this humanitarian "tragedy" that left them in "shock."

In addition, the confederal space together with ERC, Bildu, Compromís and Más País agreed last week together with several associations to promote an investigation commission in Congress on the death of migrants at the Melilla fence, but they did not clarify when they plan to register that petition in the lower house.

For her part, and before the celebration of LGBTI Pride, the leader of Podemos has praised the contribution of this group to advancing rights and making Spain "a better country". In this line, she has praised the future Trans Law that makes Podemos proud of the work of Irene Montero, whom she has defined as the "best minister of Equality".
