Arrimadas meets with Bal and sees "progress" towards a unity candidacy to lead Ciudadanos

The president of Ciudadanos, Inés Arrimadas, met this Monday with the party's deputy general secretary, Edmundo Bal, and has reported that she sees "progress" to form a unity candidacy in order to lead the party, according to sources from the environment of Arrimadas to Europa Press.

The meeting has been extended by one hour in the Congress of Deputies after the call made by Arrimadas for a candidacy for unity in view of the next Extraordinary Refoundation Assembly to be held in January.

The appointment has taken place at the request of the leader of the orange formation, who has assured that she sees progress towards the unit's candidacy "for which she is committed and will continue working to achieve it", the aforementioned sources have added.

For his part, Edmundo Bal stressed that both have spoken "as so many times" about the future of the party. "We agree that we are all necessary to relaunch this project and the members of Ciudadanos, our reason for being," wrote the vice-secretary of the formation in a message on Twitter, collected by Europa Press.

The conclave took place after Bal affirmed this Monday that his candidacy to lead the party is already one of unity, and after Arrimadas has revealed that his objective is to form a single candidacy that brings together different profiles, also new ones, with a view to the Extraordinary Assembly of January. For this reason, Bal also proposes joining the hitherto president on his list.

Arrimadas has transferred during this day that he will present his candidacy to lead the party if his "right hand", Bal, does not agree to negotiate a list of unity whose ultimate objective is to "avoid a pitched battle" in the formation. Thus, he has explained that, if the unit list prospers, he might not even lead it because, although it is not yet "defined", he is willing to give prominence "to more unknown profiles".
