Algeria will carry out anti-terrorist military exercises with Russia in the Sahara

The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Tuesday that Russia and Algeria will hold joint anti-terror exercises in the Sahara desert.

During the military exercise, the Armies of the two countries will practice the search, detection and elimination of terrorist groups in the desert scenario, as detailed by the press service of the Russian Southern Military District in statements collected by the TASS agency.

"The Russian-Algerian joint anti-terrorist exercises Desert Shield 2022 will take place for the first time in Algeria (...) The exercise will take place next November at the Hammaguir test range in Algeria", detailed the agency in a statement.

About 80 soldiers from the motorized rifle units stationed in the North Caucasus of Russia and about 80 Algerian soldiers will participate in the drills. During them, the military of the two countries will practice the search, detection and elimination of terrorist groups in the desert environment.

The first Russian-Algerian joint exercises took place in North Ossetia in October 2021 with the participation of about 200 military personnel and about 40 combat units and special equipment.
