Alejandro Blanco: "I am not going to stop fighting to have a candidacy for 2030"

MADRID, 25 May. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE), Alejandro Blanco, defended this Wednesday the body's position when it comes to carrying out the winter Olympic candidacy for 2030, and assured that he will not "stop fighting" for this project, and left clear that his desire is not "to reach the situation of negotiating independently with the territories" that are interested and that if there is no agreement, the body will be the one to present it to the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

"I am not going to stop fighting to have a candidacy because if we do not present it by 2030 we will break a line of dialogue with the IOC that is later difficult to recover. It is difficult to present it and reach an agreement, but it is not impossible, I am convinced that in the decisive moment will be presented, not by the governments, but by the people of the Pyrenees and the cities because this is a project that is the life of many people," Blanco said at a press conference after the criticism received in recent days by the Government of Aragon.

The leader warned that "without dialogue it is impossible" to move forward and that his idea now is to resume talks with all parties to "see if everyone wants to participate." "And if so, we are going to see if we can reach an agreement, if not, we would make a reasoned proposal of what should be the best option we have, with those who want to participate."

"The one who presents the candidacy is the COE. I would not like to reach the situation of negotiating independently with the territories. Anyone who wants to participate actively will be heard, both parties ask that we leave sterile political debates. It no longer depends so much on us but of the willingness of the respective governments to agree," he asserted.
