Alegría (PSOE) points out that the "slowdown" in the IPC points to a "downward trend that will continue"

MADRID, 30 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The spokeswoman for the PSOE and Minister of Education, Pilar Alegría, has shown her optimism "with prudence" on Tuesday when it was learned that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the month of August scored 10.4%, moderating its year-on-year rate four tenths. In her opinion, she corroborates the "slowdown" announced by experts due to the "downward trend that is going to continue".

In statements on Telecinco collected by Europa Press, Alegría recalled the uncertain scenario due to the war in Ukraine, which means that prices are very high both in Europe and in the rest of the world.

"We have known this small relief", he said about the latest CPI data, "it is good news that must be viewed with that more than necessary prudence and, from there, continue adopting measures to alleviate the pockets of citizens" .

The PSOE spokeswoman added that the Government will take "all the steps", as it is doing up to now, to "bend the inflation curve", which she has described as the main problem for citizens. The CPI moderated in August to 10.4% due to the lower cost of fuel, but the underlying index climbed to 6.4%.

Alegría has also "welcomed" that Brussels has announced emergency measures to curb the scale of the price of electricity, considering that it adds to what Spain raised a year ago to "intervene" in the electricity market with the decoupling of gas .

According to her, the Iberian exception allows the price in Spain and Portugal, although high, to be a third lower than in the rest of European countries in a context of "war at the gates of Europe". In addition, she has opted to "cap" CO2 emissions or make centralized gas purchases.

As she did yesterday at a press conference from the socialist headquarters in Ferraz, Pilar Alegría replied to the Second Vice President and Minister of Labour, Yolanda Díaz, that "of course" the commitment to the Prime Minister's NATO partners will be maintained, Pedro Sánchez, to increase defense spending through the General State Budgets.

In this sense, he has reiterated that budget items are not included in the spending ceiling and that negotiations are now underway to prepare the project for the next public accounts. He has also insisted on appealing to the responsibility of unions and employers to reach an agreement on the rent agreement.

"The unions have a legitimate right if they understand that they have to mobilize," she acknowledged when asked about Yolanda Díaz's words criticizing the CEOE's position. However, she has recalled measures such as the ERTE to maintain that, unlike the PP, the social agents have "shouldered the government".
