The midfielder of the Spanish team Aitana Bonmatí acknowledged "anger" and "frustration" for staying out of Euro 2022 but "pride" also for Spain's performance in the quarterfinals, being better than England.
"I would like to say that I am proud of what has been done today on the field. Everyone thought that six were going to fall on us, we have spoken on the field and we have done wonderfully," she said in statements to TVE, collected by Europa Press, after losing 2-1 in extra time.
"I have a bit of frustration, anger, having been better and you stay out of the European Championship. Our goal was to make history, reach the semi-finals for the first time, go far. This remains inside to catch what comes with more force. Give Thank you to the whole group for what you have done on the pitch and to everyone who has been supporting you," he added.
Aitana, one of the best players in the match, lamented the missed opportunity and also pointed to the controversial foul they claimed against Irene Paredes in the 1-1 draw against England.
