A project of Enel Green Power and Saras, recipient of European funding for green hydrogen

MADRID, 30 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

SardHy Green Hydrogen, the company born from the joint project of Enel Green Power and Saras for the development of green hydrogen in Sardinia, is among the beneficiaries of public subsidies of 5,200 million euros approved by the European Union, within the IPCEI Hy2Use, destined to support research and innovation, the first industrial deployment and the construction of relevant infrastructures in the hydrogen value chain, reported the energy company.

Specifically, the project consists of the installation, by SardHy Green Hydrogen, of a 20 megawatt (MW) electrolyser at the Sarroch industrial site, in the province of Cagliari, as reported.

The plant, powered exclusively by renewable energy from Enel Green Power, will be used to produce green hydrogen for the Saras refinery with the aim of reducing the carbon footprint of its refining processes.

The CEO of Enel Green Power, Salvatore Bernabei, stressed that the energy transition encompasses all areas of production, and, in this sense, "green hydrogen plays a central role in the decarbonization process of energy-intensive industrial sectors, where Hydrogen is used as a feedstock or for high-temperature heat production, where reducing CO2 emissions through electrification is not possible or more complex."

The amount of financing for this second important project of common European interest is 5,200 million euros, which will be used to support 35 projects planned by 29 companies from 13 Member States, including Italy. The four Italian companies admitted to the second IPCEI on hydrogen will receive a total of 500 million euros.
